Vocational unit: Customer service in the tourism industry (40 cp).

Tourism is an international customer service industry and has a variety of working possibilities. Come and stydy with us in the northernmost Lapland in English! This program is for you to develop your skills into an customer service expert with great knowledege of local life and Sami culture – the only indigenous people in whole Europe and ability to work in different kinds of tourism companies.

The study period includes on-the-job learning in our tourism area, Northernmost Lapland. These studies are carried out during daytime and on the job-learning sometimes also in the evenings.

Content of the studies

The new qualification requirements will be renewed from 1.8.2024. 

The scope of the Vocational Qualification in Tourism Industry is 180 competence points. The qualification is composed of vocational units (145 competence points) and common units (35 competence points).

At Sámi Education Institute, you can study one unit of vocational upper secondary qualification, we offer in English. This unit is the Compulsory unit: Customer service in the tourism industry (40 cp). 

You will be able to study in English and also Finnish as a second language. 

Requirements for student selection

Qualification equivalent to Finnish General upper secondary education, (high school diploma) or Vocational upper secondary education. 

Good command in English language. 

This education is for those who have citizenship or residence permit in Finland or in EU/ETA/Schengen countries and who have the right to work in Finland https://migri.fi/en/right-to-work

Priority will be given to applicants who already speak Finnish. 

Interest in working hospitality in tourism in Lapland and in Sami area. 

Motivation and language skills are tested in an interview. 

How to apply

Fill out the application form in our website www.sogsakk.fi. Please attach all the relevant documents regarding language level and previous education with your application (high school diploma or upper secondary vocational education certificate). 

All applicants will be invited to the interview by email.

The interview will be held on Wednesday 17th April, 2024 at Sami Education Institute, (Menesjärventie 4), 99870 INARI.

Admission results will be published at the earliest on 13th June, 2024. 

The deadline for accepting the study place at the latest by 27th June, 2024. 

The studies will start in August, 2024.
