Intellectual property rights (IP) project related to the culture of indigenous peoples in the northern region

Project partners
The Sámi Education Institute (SAKK) is the main project developer and the project will be carried out in cooperation with the Sámi Parliament and the Ministry of Education and Culture who is responsible for the project. The project measures will be implemented under the guidance and cooperation of a steering group appointed for it and in coordination with the Barents Euro-Arctic experts in intellectual property and other cooperation partners. The project is funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Baltic, Barents and Arctic cooperation).
The project objective is to produce training materials. This will be carried out by the project manager in the Sámi Education Institute and an intellectual property expert. The project manager and the expert in intellectual property rights will be assisted by a steering group consisting of experts at the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, the Sámi Parliament, the Sámi Education Institute as well as specialists in Sámi handicrafts and oral and singing traditions. The project focuses on how the regulations and legal remedies in the existing intellectual property rights system (IP system) could be applied to the intellectual property of indigenous peoples.
